Fadeout-Thumbshots
Dieses WordPress-Plugin dient dazu, Vorschaubilder von Hyperlinks als Tooltip anzuzeigen. Dabei kann man derzeit zwischen drei Linktypen wählen: Entweder wird die Vorschau für alle, nur für externe oder für speziell markierte Links generiert und angezeigt. Die Markierung erfolgt über eine zusätzliche CSS-Klasse.
Die Quelle der Vorschaubilder ist FadeOut.de, eine ziemlich coole Site, die einen freien Thumbnail-Dienst betreibt.
Die JavaScript-Bibliothek, die den Tooltip anzeigt, nennt sich “jQuery Tooltip”. Derzeit wird die Version 1.3 verwendet. Weitere Informationen finden sich auf der Homepage des Projekts (s.u.).
Ab sofort existiert die neue Generation dieses Plugins unter dem Namen “ThumbSniper“!

Yes, you’re absolutely right. This was caused by a variable which I renamed now. I just released version 1.99 and I hope that the described bug is gone. I tested it and it works for me now.

Love the idea of the plug-in and have it activated, but curious to know why it takes a couple of hovers to get the link image to appear?

It’s not a bug – it’s a mechanism.
The plugin doesn’t generate the thumbnails directly. The script sends a request for the thumbnail to the service of http://fadeout.de. If the URL is requested for the first time, it’ll be put in a queue – and you see a “coming soon”. After a few moments the thumbnail is created at fadeout.de, so if you hover the link, the request for the thumbnail is successful and it’s served and shown correctly.

Great plugin.
However, any chance of the ability to exclude specific links? i.e. I have it set to add Thumbshots to all external links. However, there are a few exceptions to this – any chance of using a specific class, ID, whatever, to exclude these?

das ist wirklich ein tolles plugin! Ein kleines Problem habe ich aber noch:
Ich möchte Vorschaubilder für alle meine externen Links anbieten AUSSER für Links, die von bestimmten Domains kommen (sozusagen eine Ausnahme-Liste). So sollen z.B. die Bilder meiner Picasa-Galerie keine Vorschaubilder enthalten.
Wäre das nicht eine sinnvole Erweiterung, die Sie einbauen könnten?

Auch angenehmer als mit ablenkender ‘powered by’ Fußnote.
Genial wäre es eine Möglichkeit einzubauen Link-Attribute, wie etwa ‘title=”"‘ uä., automatisch mit im pop-up-’frame’ anzeigen zu können (unter den Thumbshots ist ja eh noch Platz) wie etwa bei http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/hover/screenshots/ zu sehen (nur halt so hübsch, wie du/ihr es umgesetzt habt).
[ --- Logisch wäre eigentlich auch, wenn Dienste wie fadeout.de die archivierten Thumbshots (viell. einf. abhängig, davon ob sie auch noch aufgerufen werden) hochfrequenter zu aktualisieren, was der Netz-Dynamik viell. gerechter würde (da manchmal bspw. eh thumbshots von maintenance-Seiten o.ä. gespeichert werdne) ---]

ach und wenn sich der Link weit oben auf einer Seite befindet scheint er (zumindest wenn die Vorschau auf Groß eingestellt ist) die Vorschau manchmal nach oben zu öffnen so dass sie nicht zu sehen ist, weil sie quasi den Webseitenrand übertritt

Doesn’t seem to work for me.
I have setup the plugin correctly, but with every hover I still get the ‘coming soon’ image. I have the plugin up for several hours now and tried hovering several times, but I never get a thumbnail displayed… always ‘coming soon’… is fadeout.de not serving thumbs anymore or is the queue list this long that it takes several hours to get a thumbshot processed?

I like this plugin. But it dont refresh fast. My link change every 15 minutes. Is it somme thing to do ?
Regarding the thumbshot processing:
I contacted the developer/admin of the fadeout-server which generates and provides the preview images. It seems that there’s a temporary problem with the generators.
This will be fixed soon, so just hang on! :-)
Seems the thumb generators are still down.
Too bad, because this plugin looked very promising…
Just removed the plugin from my list, maybe I’ll check it out again in the future.

Nen cooler Effekt – gerade, dass es auf jQuery basiert, machts interessant – da bekommt man optisch bestimmt was richtig nettes hin.
hello, testing the plugin, i would like to avoid the 3d effect, no fade direction, just a plain normal rectangle of thumbnail. Is it possible?

no, sorry, this isn’t possible. This plugin uses thumbnail images from fadeout.de. There’s no way to access the unmodified images.
Additionally this plugin will not be updated anymore. I developed a new generation called “ThumbSniper”. The current version does not allow to use unmodified images, too. But this will change with the next version, which is going to be released in the next days (I hope).

Ich habe mal die URL von diesem offensichtlichen SPAM-Beitrag entfernt und erinnere der Vollständigkeit halber noch mal daran, dass das Plugin Fadeout-Thumbshots unter dem neuen Namen ThumbSniper weiterentwickelt wird.
Der Fadeout Server ist leider down. Wie wirkt sich das denn jetzt auf das ThumbSniper Plugin aus?
Es wirkt sich glücklicherweise GAR NICHT aus, denn das ThumbSniper-Plugin verwendet eine unabhängige Technik, die rein gar nichts mit dem Fadeout-Projekt zu tun hat. :-)
