ThumbSniper
Bei diesem WordPress-Plugin handelt es sich um die Weiterentwicklung des Plugins “FadeOut-Thumbshots”.
Ein neues Design, zeitgemäßere Techniken und eine verbesserte Ladezeit aufgrund eines gänzlich neu entwickelten Backends sind die wichtigsten neuen Features. Das ThumbSniper-Plugin dient dazu, Vorschaubilder von Hyperlink-Zielen als Tooltips anzuzeigen. Dabei kann man derzeit zwischen drei Linktypen wählen: Entweder wird die Vorschau für alle, nur für externe oder für speziell markierte Links generiert und angezeigt.

I do need some help with ThumbSniper plugin.
How can I disable the tooltips on the photographs from my website? Its kind’a annoying when people surf my blog. I only want to show the tooltip for each posting but not on each of the photos..
Is there a code I need to add to thumbsniper.php ?? or is my only option to ‘add’ each photo link to the excluded URL’s text box…. but I have too many photos :( … :)).
Your advise is greatly appreciated.

Hi Esther,
in the current version you could use the “excluded URLs” option to ignore your images by using a wildcard entry like
http://www.estherpalermo.com/wp-content/uploads/* (please note the star at the end).
This would stop ThumbSniper from displaying any images that you uploaded to your blog.
If this isn’t enough, I could build some kind of “*.jpg” filter in the next version.

I’m not able to get it to work either. I installed the previous version before the update, made sure it’s set to all and tried changing a few of the other options and let it sit for a few days, but nothing. Same thing with the new updated version. It doesn’t seem to be doing anything at all when I mouse over my links. I installed FadeOut-Thumbshots and it worked immediately. However it doesn’t have the background color options which I’d like to use. I have the newest version of WP 3.2.1. Any suggestions? I’d really like to use this plugin as opposed to others.

I just released a new version. It contains some important changes regarding conflict avoidance with other plugins and scripts. I’d be glad if you’d give 0.9.6 a try and tell me about it. If the problems remain, please keep the plugin installed so that I can have a look at your site’s source code (via browser).

I had a look at your site again: The plugin “youtube-insert-me” is the trouble-maker. It does an “echo” to insert another version of the jQuery library. It conflicts with the needed version for the ThumbSniper scripts ’cause the youtube-insert-me-jQuery version is too old.
You may disable that youtube-insert-me plugin or just modify it. To do so, please disable the text string
"<script type='text/javascript' src='https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js'></script>"from the “youtubeinsertme()” function in the file “wp-content/plugins/youtube-insert-me.php”.Hey Thanks a lot! That did it. Could you also look into making an option that makes it to where the thumbnail only shows for external links or internal and external links like how they have on the FadeOut-Thumbshots plugin? That would save a lot of time from having to mark the links you do or don’t want to show.

Do you just need one single static image for the whole site? That shouldn’t take very long to implement. Just let me know.

and no not a single image for whole site. I made a list of Artists name and what i wanted to do is to show their thumbnail image once the cursor is hovered over their name. I guess wont be possible with this plugin then.

leider kriege ich Dein Plugin nicht so recht zum Laufen. Ich verwende WP 3.2.1, iFeature Pro 2 als Theme und hab noch folgende Plugins aktiviert:
-Akismet
-Counterize II
-Fancybox Plus
-Time Zone
-WordPress Database Backup
-WP-ContactForm
-wp-scanner activator
Die Einstellungen von Thumbsniper stehen alle auf den Defaultwerten. Leider kommt kein Previewfenster, wenn ich über einen Link gehe.
Kannst Du mir vielleicht weiter helfen?

ich kann Dein Problem leider nicht nachvollziehen… ThumbSniper läuft auf Deiner Website doch super! :-) Ich nehme mal an, die Thumbnail-Einstellung steht auf “external”. Fahre z.B. mal mit der Maus über die externen Links in Deinem Footer. Sieht gut aus, find’ ich.

stimmt, ich hab die Optionen auf “external” umgestellt. Ich hab mir die Seite bisher nur mit meinem Standardbrowser (Firefox 6.0.2) angesehen und da kamen keine Thumbs.
Mit dem IE 9 klappt es… scheint also ein Browserproblem zu sein…

Du hast Recht! Das Plugin hatte ein Problem mit der Darstellung bei Firefox/Mozilla. Ich habe eine neue Version (0.9.7) veröffentlicht. Das Problem sollte gelöst sein, d.h. es sollte nun auf allen Major-Browsern laufen.
Ich fänd’s super, wenn Du das Update mal ausprobieren und mir Bescheid geben würdest!

eine Frage zu Deinem Plugin: gibt’s da einen Jungendschutzfilter? :-)
Ich habe einen Text zu Bushido geschrieben und ein paar seiner Songtexte verlinkt. Die Vorschaubilder wirken aber ausgegraut, liegt das am verlinkten Text (bei den Titeln von Bushido schlagen sicher die meisten Jugendschutzfilter Alarm)?
Ich finde das okay, wollte nur mal nachfragen…

ich habe zwar schon einen Filter in Arbeit, der ist allerdings noch nicht eingebaut. Wenn man die Seite mit den Songtexten mit einem normalen Browser ohne Ad-Blocker aufruft, wird sie beim Laden ausgegraut und es erscheint eine Klingelton-Werbung. Ich gehe davon aus, dass die Thumbnails im Moment zwischen Ausgrauen und Werbung-zeigen geschossen werden.
Ich habe für die drei Links nun JavaScript ausgeschaltet und die Thumbs erneuert. Jetzt sieht’s sauber aus.

Don’t worry. The ThumbSniper-Service is scalable and the ThumbSniper-Agents (they’re doing the hard work) are running as decentralized boxes which can be increased if needed.
BTW: ThumbSniper is fed on MyNakedGirlfriend.de-backlinks, so feed it. ;-)

Ich möchte für einzelne Wörter wenn die Maus drüberfährt daß ein Kommentar in einer Sprechblase angezeigt wird.
Ich denke, das kann ich mit ThumbSniper machen (setting marked). Bekomme es aber nicht mit der Style-CSS-Syntax hin. Könntest du ein Syntaxbeispiel geben?
Beispiel von mir, was ich will zum besseren Verständnis:
Klickt man auf den Notiz-Button, dann wird ein Bild mit einer entsprechenden Notiz angezeigt.

Ich möchte das halt mit reinem Text umsetzen, daß wenn jemand über das Schlüsselwort mit der Maus fährt, schon der Kommentar in einer Sprechblase angezeigt wird ohne extra klicken zu müssen.
Dabei soll das nur auf der einen Seite wirksam sein, wenn auf einer anderen Seite das selbe Wort steht, dann soll das nicht der Fall sein.
Aber irgendwie bekomme ich es mit der Syntax nicht hin.
Zusatzfrage:
Könnte ich z.B. auch unterschiedliche Kommentare auf ein- und dasselbe Wort auf UNTERSCHIEDLICHEN Seiten hinterlegen?
Beispiel:
Auf Seite 1 soll bei dem Wort “Notiz” Kommentar Nr. 1 angezeigt werden.
Auf Seite 2 soll bei demselben Wort Kommentar Nr. 2 angezeigt werden etc.

you may add a class called “nothumbsniper” to your PDF hyperlinks manually.
I know that this is an inconvenient way for big sites.
I’m going to release a new version in a few days. I think that it should be possible to implement a better way to exclude URL types.

How long does Thumbsniper cache a thumb, once it has been retrieved?

the ThumbSniper generators try to refresh the images every 24 hours (at the moment). The refresh intervals may become bigger in the future.
